But once you’ve drank your huge bottle of rhubarb tea, devoured twenty-seven replacement bars, and smeared tons of bee venom cream on your face, where’s the benefit to your spirit? I mean, you probably feel prettier (even if you’re so hungry you could eat a tyrannosaurus burger). Very well. Then? That’s all?! Have you tried to take a look at your thoughts? Are you sure everything is fine there too?

I know that body care is important, indeed very important; it is an essential act of love towards you because your body is a sacred place and must be respected and honored. The point is, however, that you are not only what you see in the mirror, on the contrary, you are what you do not see… You are your thoughts, your intuitions, you are the little voice that suggests you the right choices. You are your smiles, your ambitions, your courage and your fears, the things you love, your most hidden dreams. As you can see, you are a beautiful world of infinite facets. And, believe me, a herbal tea is not enough to take care of it. It takes much, much more.

After all, how many times have you felt beautiful on the outside but sad on the inside? How many times have you felt fit, but alone? Why? Perhaps because you have made the mistake that many other women make: putting only the physical aspect at the center of their attention, without taking care of their inner self. Well, if you have done it too it is not only “your fault”, but it also depends on our culture which, not only maniacally revolves around aesthetics, but somehow also accustoms us to believe that the search for spirituality is a Zen thing typical of Buddhist monks and gurus. And then – let’s face it – you are so busy every day that you certainly don’t have time to meditate cross-legged, do you?

Wrong! It is not true that in order to take care of your inner self you have to meditate, attend a school of oriental practices or leave for the Camino de Santiago. You can take care of what is happening inside you at any time, wherever you live, whatever your age or profession. And, if I can give you a piece of advice, you should start doing it as soon as possible because it is the most important gift you can give yourself. Taking care of your soul is the way to harmony; it is the key to your fulfillment.

Soul care is not an abstract matters. On the contrary: a continuous and constant work on your spirit will have practical effects on your everyday life.

Let me give you some examples:

  • if you clarify things within yourself, you will understand which path to take if you are at a crossroads;
  • if you identify your values, you will find the courage to make an important decision such as ending an unhealthy relationship or changing an unsatisfactory carreer path;
  • if you learn to forgive yourself, you will get rid of the useless feelings of guilt with which you probably, more or less consciously, live with;
  • if you rediscover your worth, you will understand that you must not be afraid of loneliness;
  • if you improve your self-esteem, you will improve your relationship with others;
  • if you destroy your fears, you will start building your dreams.

So, as you can see, dealing with your inner world is not important. It is crucial.

There are infinite ways to re-connect with your inner self. Personally I believe that one of the first steps is to become aware of your inner dialogue. I wrote a post about it. If you want to know more, read here: The superpower of inner dialogue.
